Not really a fan of the plate, but pretty cool to see one in the wild.

I really don’t get the look of having the plate way off on the side like this, but it’s very common somehow. Especially in this case it seems weird because it’s sticking out straight where the bumper curves away.

Gorgeous car, though.

When I have my front plate relocate on, it’s in a similar position. I hate front plate laws.

I really want one of these in Nitrous Blue. It's such a nice color in person.

It's usually because of the tow hook, that's how you can avoid having to drill into your bumper.

Yep. This.

Kinja'd!!!

I used a couple of L-brackets to move it off to the side on my MR2. Why? Because the stock plate position in the center of the grill blocked airflow. I actually started having overheating issues until I moved the plate over to the side.

I leave mine on my dash here in CA. Haven’t been bothered yet.

agree 100% either sack up and run no plate or put it up front where it belongs. this doesn't make your car look cooler

I’d rather have my car look less good, then have something that can turn into a flying saw blade in an accident at roughly neck height inside my car.

There’s probably a way to mount it on the side through the grille like that, instead of drilling holes in the bumper.

I only ever got ticketed once in hundreds of thousands of miles without a front bumper. I got a license plate bracket kit that attaches through the bumper tow hook opening, so that I didn’t have to drill holes.

Someone on Oppo bitched and moaned in a post about this not long ago. It’s illegal to have the front plate in the windshield, but as I know from experience, most LE don’t know that, so you’re probably fine leaving it there.

It’s less about legality than it is about how it’s a really bad idea to leave a sharp metal object unsecured on your dash, in case you get into an accident and it’s turned into a sharp metalic projectile.

I’d just like to imagine it’s a typo of LESTIG which sounds like some sort of Scandinavian name.

It’s wedged in there pretty solidly, I’m not too worried.

I don’t live in a no front plate state, and most of my cars haven’t had one. Cops just don’t care unless they’re really, really bored.

Accidents have sent text books through seats and into people before, the forces that can be exerted in a high speed accident are pretty ridiculous. If you’re comfortable with it, that’s cool. I just don’t see the risk being worth it.

I've not had a front plate for over 2 years and never been stopped. Probably thanks to my grey GenCoupe being a bit of a sleeper.

Mine has been off my car since early this year, it was on the ground and blew away during a snow storm on my first track day at ACC this year. lol I hadn’t replaced it, because I’m lazy and didn’t care to look into how I get a replacement plate in Illinois. Was parked down at my fiance’s brother’s place in Wrigleyville on Sunday and came back out to a $60 ticket. -_-

I’ve seen a few Stig plates out there, and always strongly dislike them. You’re making pretty grand claims about your driving skill with that, and I’m going to guess that most people with them don’t have the acumen behind the wheel to back those claims up.

The other day I saw a middle age crisis mobile (source: Red Corvette with license plates “STILYNG” (Still young)) with a center mounted front plate...literally screwed into the bumper with 2 screws right over the ‘point’ of the front bumper such that the plate bent with the curvature of the bumper.

That’s the very reason I Gorilla-Taped my plate to the windshield for the week I was too lazy to install my front plate mount.

Gorilla Tape is the shit, by the way. Not your normal duct tape, this stuff is STRONG.

Yeah, it depends on the car. Since my Miata is loud, low, has a roll bar and 4-point harness, it’s a cop magnet. Most departments have an unwritten rule that they shouldn’t bother people for lacking a front plate unless someone is already committing a moving violation.

But SOME police are just pricks, like the one I recently encountered who pulled me over for the sole reason that I wasn’t running my front plate. I had it in the passenger’s seat, and he with me sticking it behind the windshield.

But God he was a prick. Said “I caught you distracted driving too, buddy.” My phone was in my pocket and I just looked at him like “WTF?” before he graciously gave me a verbal warning.

I got 2 no-front-plate tickets within a half hour of being parked on the street in Queens, NY one time. The parking police in the five boroughs are the scum of the earth. I don’t ever want to live there again.

I drove about an hour home last night with no plates whatsoever. Passed two staties, too.
